Farmers' Markets
The trend for “buy local” which is sweeping the country has been a way of life here in the South Hams for many years, certainly long before it became fashionable elsewhere! We have always enjoyed a tradition of supporting our local producers, whether through a farm shop or direct from the outlet; whether it’s our Sunday roast, Christmas goose or fresh dairy products using milk from the animals grazing in the fields.
Thankfully, it is very easy for us to source a huge variety of local products because we have a wealth of local producers from which to choose - the hardest part is deciding what to have!
Fortunately, we enjoy regular Farmers Markets right here in Kingsbridge, on the first and third Saturdays of every month, when the food comes to us…….and what food!
- Fresh vegetables and fruit grown in the fields and orchards which help make our area so green and beautiful.
- The unique taste of our local oysters and a glistening array of fish and seafood landed on the local beach that dawn
- The smell of fresh baked bread and pastries - still warm from the oven!
- Fresh meat served by the farmer who tended his livestock, properly hung and from contented animals
- Luscious handmade chocolates and other treats
- Cheeses of every description
- Locally grown flowers, plants and herbs
- Patés
- Yoghurts
- Pies and Pasties
- Honey from Kingsbridge Bees...
- Plus Chillies for heat and Free Range Eggs from free roaming chickens…..
- and a wonderful selection of home-cooked meals so you don’t have to!
Our Farmers Markets really do have something for everyone….don’t forget to look out for those selected dates when they are even extra special! There may be food tasting events – or seasonal recipes for you to try at home; live music to sing along to or rural crafts for you to try your hand at…..
